HAP-FAST
This NIHR funded clinical trial will determine the best way to diagnose Hospital Acquired Pneumonia and its causes.
Background
Hospital Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) can be fatal and is the most common healthcare associated infection (HCAI) in the UK.
Yet, despite its frequency and severity, diagnosis remains inaccurate, and the treatment is imprecise.
HAP-FAST is a trial to compare the standard diagnostic approach with new strategies.
HAP-FAST will determine which diagnostic pathway leads to the best outcome for patients and which is most cost effective.
